The fundamental concept on how biology and chemistry interacts starts with the understanding of living things. History have provided biologist an elementary way of studying living organisms through the use of a microscope, and direct observation. However, science have advanced, and direct observation could not provide qualitative and quantitative data for biologist to gain advanced knowledge in understanding how organism converting food to muscle and bone. The plants ability to use water and sunlight, and have a parallel understanding that cells need the same things to sustain life, continue growth, and provide the ability to reproduce. This basic discovery that biologist came to realizes is that chemistry and biology must work together as a cohesive unit in order to understanding multiply exchanges between atoms, molecules, and cells. Metabolism is used to sustain life, it is explained as the chemical reactions that go on within the cells of the human body. This process allows for food intake to be converted into energy.
